An excellent buy for starting a 7.1 system by Michael C
I purchased this receiver a few days ago and waited until I ran it through as many set-ups and combinations as I could in order to be as thorough in my review as possible. The STR-DH810 has been able to easily handle everything I've thrown at it through every type of cable imaginable and has only had one flaw that I've noticed: upscaling a composite video signal to 1080p (from a Nintendo 64 in this instance) seems to come with some flicker to the upscaled image, but flicker was solved by changing the resolution to 480p or 1080i. My only fault with the input set-up in the back is that there are no audio inputs that correlate directly with the component video inputs, so when I want to hook up a Wii or Xbox with component cables I have to hook the audio cables up to different inputs. Therefore, I have to have the L/R audio cables plugged into the BD composite audio input and reprogram where the video signal comes from in order to have the video and audio programmed to the same input selection. Because of this I had to do some unconventional reassigning of inputs, but since each input can be named by the user it is simple enough to keep track of.



Programming the remote to work with all of my components was very simple. Everything is working smoothly together, especially by utilizing Bravia Sync with a PS3.



5.1 and 7.1 DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD have been handled perfectly and the 7.1 set-up has given my living room a sound field that I wouldn't have believed. I prefer to calibrate my speakers by my own ear, but using the Auto Cal option to see how well it works was a very pleasant surprise, and trying to fool the mic by placing it in tough spots was harder to do than one would imagine. As long as the environment is quiet during the Auto Cal, then the calibration will do a fantastic job. I preferred to do a few tweaks of my own after the Auto Cal, but for the most part I felt that it was spot on.



This seems to be a fantastic starting receiver for the price, and the only reason I could see to upgrade to the STR-DH1010 would be for HDMI 1.4 support for 3D. If 3D isn't your concern then this receiver is the way to go.

Worth my first try & worth the Purchase! by GWUDZ
This was my first home theatre purchase and i wasnt sure if it was the best choice, i admired the samsung for its looks though remembered a previous bad encounter with a Hifi i bought some years back, the panasonic home theatre also caught my attention in the cost range but following reviews, i gave the sony the shot. First, I got to see & hear the panasonic - it looked cheap and sounded not great, then the samsung which wasnt outstanding as i though, compared to sony, infact, the sony had a better remote and in my opinion sound too. each day i play music or movies, am satisfied I made the best choice in quality & price with no regret. the Sony performs! and I must commend AMAZON for great service delivery!!

Sony STR-DH100 Receiver review by Jason Payne
Overall, I find this to be a good product. My other Sony electronics (IE, my Tape Player, my CD player, and speakers) all work well with it.

My only complaint so far is that the bass doesn't sound as full and rich as it did on my old Sony receiver.

I have not tried hooking up a TV or DVD player to it, so I could not tell you how well that works!

If you just want something inexpensive to play your music, i would recommend this product.

Works as advertised, but if I had to do it again, would have picked a different Logitec by Richard Siegel
Setup was easy. I only made one mistake during the initial setup and was able to fix it without calling customer service. The whole process took about an hour - and this was to set up a TV, a satellite, a home theater receiver/amp, a Playstation 3 and a WII.



I especially liked the fact that the remote remembers the current state of all the components so it transmits just the right commands when you want to turn them on or off or switch to watching another source. However, you should keep your old remotes around in case you're too far away or not aiming the remote properly when you enter a command. Since the remote has no way of actually knowing if a component received a command, it can make mistakes; like turning something on that you wanted to turn off. Although it does attempt to correct mistakes itself if you press "help", it doesn't always figure out the problem. If components get out of sync, using the original component remote fixes the problem. This only happens once a week or so, but just the same, perhaps, next time I'll get the RF version of the remote (The Harmony 800 I think) so there will be less chance of missed commands.



The only other issue I have is with the touch screen. It's nice to have the flexibility of adding and removing functions, but it's real easy to hit the wrong touch-screen button my mistake - especially if you're trying to use the remote one-handed like a traditional remote. Perhaps using programmable buttons rather than a touchscreen would work better. The touchscreen does add a dose of coolness however. :)

I have had this for about 4+ years now and it is very reliable. Has fallen off my desk at work many times and still works.

Sound quality is good. Connection is via plug-in wire.

NOTE - No IPOD/IPHONE docking or charging capability.

My only negative drawback is when you grab it by the back it is easy to unintentionally hit hit the time/date setting on the back of the unit causing it to start beeping and possibly change the time.

Our LED TV has rear facing built-in speakers making it difficult to hear unless the room is very quiet. The Samsung speakers look great mounted on the wall with the TV and sound very good. The wireless subwoofer can be put anywhere in the room ( hidden in our case) and has really good sound. While not a replacement for true surround sound it is a drastic improvement over TV Speakers and well worth the cost. We are very happy with this purchase.

I purchased an LG television last fall and have really enjoyed it. When I needed a new combo system I found this LG system that fits my needs. It is the only one in this price range that allows you to hook up already existing speakers. Most units have those little plastic plugs that make you use their speakers. My U-verse DVR has an ethernet plug so the internet hookup was easy. It has an iPod dock and you can control your music playback onscreen. I have really enjoyed using the online capabilities. Netflix is adding more movies all the time and you can even view photos saved with Picasa(Google). Creating your own radio station using Pandora is icing on the cake. All-in-all, a great unit for the money.

As good as it gets by Tiara
I've had numerous walkmans and this is the best. Yes the battery compartment is in a ridiculous place, and the batteries are hard to get out because the cover doesn't open enough to give you easy access, but everything else is so perfect that it is worth the effort. This is the only player I've had that doesn't skip. It is great for reading books because it starts up just where you left off and the batteries last longer than any other players. So, all in all, it's a winner.

I had no problems hooking this up to my Samsung 32' LCD HDTV. The sound was great and the bass was perfect. The only problem I'm having at the moment is I cant get surround out of my xbox 360 (i do have a digital optical audio cable hooked up) Half the reason i bought it. All in all a great system.

It's fabulous for what it is by florida mom
I debated over and over about this speaker bar but after receiving it and setting it up I have to say it is fabulous. I consider myself a home audiophile with surround in my main tv room and jobsite rock speakers wired in my pool. I know what I like and use a/v forums and work in the events business and work with sound. So when I bought this I was hesitant. I did want a receiver and decent sound and just didn't feel like wiring and mounting speakers again. I have to say that this is so easy my four year old could set it up. For those out there going off on the sound quality...physically it cannot make surround sound, I mean, just look at it. This set up is basically the center and front left and front right speakers and a subwoofer. However, it offers a rich sound experience beyond what I expected and far better than my Samsung LCD has to offer. Now, I have this set up in a very small room. It is in a bedroom that I redesigned to a game/tv room. Knowing that, I am sure I am the best set up possible for a sound system like this one. Regardless, it does what it is designed to do. I am hiding all of my components in a closet so the positioning of the subwoofer isn't an issue but after seeing the size of it I can understand the issue this giant piece of equiptment has caused other reviewers. Also note, those mounting on the wall and running cables...this set up has a decent 10' cable that ties the woofer with the speaker bar. It came with an optical audio cable but it looked so cheap and flimsy I got another one from monoprice. I'm usually a cheapskate when it comes to cables but I coulnd't think this one would last and since I was running it through a wall I didn't want to have to go back and change it later.
