The ACTIVITY function shouldn't be thought of as a luxury in multifunction remotes, it's a necessity. Choosing an activity not only assigns button functions to the relevant devices, but turns everything on, and selects the devices proper inputs.
Something not working right? The popular HELP button sends all the commands again. It then interactively provides assistance if something isn't working correctly, sending commands to your various devices to fix the problem.
The responsiveness of this remote isn't as fast as cheaper hard-wired remotes. Don't let this dissuade you. The benefits you gain are worth the almost imperceptible lag between depressing a button and a device's response.
It's layout is just about perfect. It's lightweight but doesn't feel at all 'cheap.' Nice finishing on the surfaces. Design is typical Logitech. It's like Japanese and German automakers wanted to make a smart-remote and asked Apple to help design the body. But they got Google to make the software.
The software works just fine, though, it could use some improvement. The software interface is only okay. But that's the beauty of software. It can mature. Initial setup is good enough for most, but geeks and perfectionists will love the customizing.
Consider Logitech's 900 model if you need radio frequency (RF) capabilities. Example: PS3
